Child abuse AND NEGLECT is a pervasive and deadly problem.
In 2011, over 676,000 children were determined to be victims of abuse or neglect.
As in prior years, neglect was the most common form of child maltreatment, but victims also suffered from physical abuse, sexual abuse, and psycholoigcal maltreatment.
And, an estimated 1,570 children died. (Information taken from the U.S. Separtment of Health and Human Services: Administration for Children & Families Child Matreatment Report 2011) In the fight against child abuse, knowledge is our strongest weapon. The more you know about it, the more you can do to help those who have already been victimized and prevent it from happening again. Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect encourages you to learn more about child abuse and the programs in your community and to pass that information on to those around you.
Start with your own family and your own community.
