Newaygo County prevention of child abuse and neglect

Mission: To help prevent child abuse and neglect through education, child advocacy, direct service programs and collaborative projects.

NCPCA has been in operation since 1985. We have provided needs based services within the county to help fill gaps in programming. Some of the programs we offer include:

 Kids Have Rights - Our organization has partnered with the Kent County Child Advocacy center to be trained on Kids Have Rights. Kids Have Rights accomplishes its mission by partnering and working collaboratively with area elementary schools to present body safety lessons during the school day that are engaging, child-centered, and age appropriate.  Curriculum is based on the latest research and informed by the expertise of the program educators, CAC’s therapists, forensic interviewers, law enforcement, and others.
KHR educators present a 30 – 60 minute lesson (dependent upon grade level) which is reinforced by subsequent mini-lessons taught by the classroom teacher. Classroom teachers are given an instructive video, an Educator’s Guide, and answer keys.  They are taught the warning signs of child sexual abuse, how to effectively listen and respond appropriately to a disclosure of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse.​

​Safe Kids -  NCPCA promotes various Newaygo County activities.  These include car seat safety checks, information about poisons, bike safety, fire safety, water safety, personal safety issues (including internet) and much more. 

Safe Sleep - NCPCA provides Safe Sleep education, sleep sacks and portable cribs to parents of newborns who are in need of these resources. We collaborate with Spectrum Health to provide safe sleep information, surveys, and sleep sacks to all mothers who deliver at Gerber Memorial Spectrum Health. 
Reducing infant deaths due to unsafe sleep is a critical initiative in Michigan and a crucial component to our prevention work. Call us today to set up a safe sleep training, pack and play or sleep sack.

​Summer Program - Our SUMMER MAGIC Program is an eight week summer program. We offer education beyond the classroom. These experiences include team building skills, guest speakers, mentoring, making new friends, new creative activities and recreation such as swimming and games.  This program is available for children 5-16 years of age. Children also receive free lunch and snacks while attending our program with the help of the Michigan Department of Education, USDA, United Way and  Newaygo Middle School.
